Inset Day – Phoenix Bay Valentine’s Day

We wrapped up the half-term with an inset day focused on something at the heart of Phoenix Bay – trauma-informed practice.

And yes, we also happened to spend Valentine’s Day doing what we love – learning how to support our students even better.

The day’s training took a deep dive into:

🧠 The neuroscience of trauma:
Understanding how past experiences shape behaviour and learning.

🤝 Relational trauma:
Identifying protective factors and strengthening relationships.

🎭 The power of play:
How interactive, engaging activities help students feel safe, connected, and ready to learn.

Huge thanks to our Mental Health Lead Lucy for leading an excellent day.

We’re incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated, knowledgeable, and reflective staff team – always open to professional growth (and any excuse to make a mess while learning!).

Trauma-informed practice isn’t just a theory – it’s the foundation of how we create safe, supportive, and engaging learning environments.

How do you think schools can embed more trauma-informed approaches into daily practice?
