On the opening day of the World Cup, we didn’t just watch. We celebrated.
Each class at Phoenix Bay was allocated a country to support – and from there, the day took on a life of its own.
Classrooms transformed into flags and colours. Students dug into the traditions, customs and heritage of their nation. And then came the PE – where every class proudly represented their country on the pitch.
The day was built around:
🎨 Art – designing and creating their country’s flag and colours
🌍 Cultural exploration – learning about traditions, customs and heritage
⚽ PE – representing their nation through sport
Days like this matter.
Not because of the football (although the timing helps), but because they create a moment where every student has something to bring. A country to represent, a team to belong to, a culture to explore and share.
For our young people, that sense of identity – of being given a role and running with it – is genuinely powerful.
