Qualifications Pathways and Destinations
At Phoenix Bay School, we are committed to providing a personalised and accessible curriculum that supports every learner to achieve their full potential. We offer a wide range of recognised qualifications through leading exam boards including AQA, OCR, City & Guilds, and Pearson.
				Our curriculum includes:
- AQA Unit Awards, allowing students to receive recognition for smaller units of learning and achievement.
- Functional Skills Levels 1 and 2 in key subjects such as English and Maths.
- Entry Level Qualifications in Science, PE, and ICT, offering accessible pathways for students at the early stages of their learning journey.
- Opportunities for students to access GCSE pathways in core subjects, as well as Art and Design, depending on their individual learning needs and progress.
Our flexible and supportive approach ensures that each student can engage with learning at the right level, building confidence, skills, and qualifications that prepare them for further education, training, or employment.
Outcomes
We are incredibly proud to share that for the second consecutive year, 100% of our Year 11 students have successfully progressed to Post-16 placements — a fantastic achievement that reflects the hard work, resilience, and determination of our students, alongside the dedication of our staff team.
This year, every single student left with nationally recognised qualifications, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey. All students (100%) achieved Functional Skills qualifications at Level 1 or 2 — a strong testament to their hard work and perseverance. In addition, 66% of the cohort successfully undertook GCSEs in English and Maths, with one student proudly securing a Grade 3 in English.. Two-thirds of students also gained Entry Level 3 qualifications in Science. These strong academic outcomes, alongside the students’ personal growth, demonstrate their readiness for the next stage and reflect the high expectations and supportive environment we foster at our school.
Our leavers have gained placements at reputable local institutions such as South Devon College, Eat That Frog, ROC College, and GHQ in Plymouth. We are proud not only of the qualifications our students achieved, but of the confidence, independence, and ambition they take with them into their next steps. With two Year 11 cohorts now having moved on successfully, our school continues to demonstrate that with the right support and high aspirations, every young person can thrive beyond school.
