Say hello to the newest (and fuzziest) member of the Phoenix Bay team!
We’re beyond excited to introduce our very own bespoke puppet – designed to support learning in a creative, engaging, and relational way.
He’ll be joining us especially for reading sessions (think a little bit Sesame Street magic), and will help create safe, imaginative spaces where students can read, talk, and explore their emotions.
No name yet… BUT that’s where our students come in. They’ll be deciding what he should be called, and we’d love to hear your suggestions too!
Handmade by the incredibly talented Phil Fletcher Puppeteer/Puppet Builder (the puppeteer behind CBBC’s Hacker the Dog), our puppet is already winning hearts.
Why puppets?
Because they’re more than just fun – they’re powerful tools in trauma-informed education.
Puppets help students:
🧠 Understand and express emotions
🗣️ Develop communication and social skills
📖 Build confidence in reading aloud
💬 Open up during ELSA-based activities
🎭 Role-play different situations in a safe, playful way
From staff to students of all ages – the response has been nothing short of magical.
We can’t wait to see how this little character helps spark big conversations, warm connections, and a lifelong love of reading.
