Fred Thomas MP – Visit to Pounds House

We were delighted to welcome Fred Thomas MP to Pounds House and share the progress being made towards the opening of Phoenix Bay Park SEND School.

Although we’re not yet open and are currently awaiting Department for Education sign-off, it’s exciting to see the building coming to life as we prepare for launch.

Over recent weeks, we’ve been welcoming prospective students and their families to a series of informal taster and drop-in sessions. These visits have provided an opportunity for young people and parents to meet the team, explore the facilities, and learn more about the support and opportunities that will be available when the school officially opens.

Pounds House has been transformed to include specialist learning spaces, speech and language facilities, wellbeing areas, creative workshops, and vocational environments designed around the interests and aspirations of the young people we hope to support.

It was a pleasure to show Fred around and discuss our vision for providing high-quality specialist education closer to home for families across Plymouth and the surrounding area.

Fred Thomas:

“It was fantastic to visit Pounds House today, the new home of Phoenix Bay Park SEND school here in Plymouth.

These spaces will give young people the chance to develop practical skills and gain real work experience alongside their education.

This new provision at Pounds House means more young people can access specialist support closer to home, as well as offering a new lease of life to a well-loved building within our city.

What struck me most was the calm and specialised approach, with small classes, experienced local staff and a strong focus on wellbeing.

I’ll be following progress closely and doing what I can to support.”

We’re looking forward to the final stages of the process and will continue to share updates as we move towards our official opening.
